Your Google Business Profile is a primary driver of local SEO. For Seattle service businesses—plumbers, electricians, home organizers, consultants—it is often the very first interaction a potential customer has with your brand. And the first thing they see is your photos.
Most businesses get this wrong. They upload a blurry logo, a pixelated photo of their van, or worse, a stock photo of a smiling person who is clearly not in Seattle.
This sends the wrong signal. It says you don't care about details. It says you might not be a legitimate, established local business. Your photos are a direct reflection of your work's quality.
Can I Use Stock Photos on My Google Business Profile?
No. Do not use stock photography for your primary GBP images. Google's guidelines advise against it, and local customers can spot them instantly. A generic photo of a plumber fixing a sink does not prove *you* can fix *their* sink in West Seattle.
Customers look at photos to find signals of trust and local expertise. They want to see you, your team, and your equipment in a recognizable Puget Sound context.
What Photos Should Service Businesses Upload?
A good GBP photo strategy builds trust through authenticity. It shows potential customers who you are, what you do, and where you do it. We advise our clients to focus on three categories of images.
/Photos of Your Team
- Headshots: Clear, professional headshots of you and your key team members. These don't need to be stuffy. A photo of your lead electrician in front of a well-organized work van is more effective than a LinkedIn-style portrait against a gray backdrop.
- Team in Action: Show your team working. This could be consultants collaborating in a Pioneer Square office, organizers mapping out a closet in a Bellevue home, or landscapers installing a rain garden in Tacoma. Capture the process and the people behind it.
/Photos of Your Work
This is where you prove your value. Document your work with high-quality before-and-after photos. Show the messy reality and the clean, finished result.
- Before & After: A tangled mess of wires behind a media center, followed by a photo of neatly organized cables. A cluttered garage, followed by a photo of a clean, functional space with new shelving.
- The Finished Product: A beautifully striped lawn in Ballard. A new, efficient heat pump installed in a Fremont bungalow. A freshly detailed car gleaming in the sun (when we have it).
The goal is to help a potential customer in your service area visualize a successful outcome in their own home or business.
/Photos That Signal "Local"
Show you belong here. Reinforce your connection to the Seattle area. Generic photos make you look like a national chain or a lead-generation aggregator.
- Your Branded Vehicle: Get a clean shot of your truck or van. Bonus points if it has a recognizable landmark in the background, like the Space Needle, a ferry, or the brick buildings of SoDo.
- Your Office or Shop: Even if customers don't visit, show them you have a real, physical presence. An image of your clean, well-lit shop in Kent or your office in South Lake Union adds legitimacy.
- Local Details: A picture of your team volunteering at a local event, or even just a shot of your crew chief enjoying a coffee from a well-known Seattle roaster. These small details build a human connection.
A Simple Photo Checklist
- Logo: A clean, high-resolution version of your logo.
- Cover Photo: Your best, most compelling shot. We recommend a photo of your team on-site at a job that represents your ideal project.
- Team Photos: At least 3-5 photos of you and your actual employees.
- Behind-the-Scenes: 3-5 photos showing your process and equipment.
- Finished Work: At least 5-10 high-quality images of successful projects.
- Location/Vehicle: 1-3 photos establishing your local presence.
Keep photos current. Add new project photos quarterly. A profile that was last updated in 2019 looks neglected.
